So, what will the treatment involve?
I want you to get out of your session exactly what you need and will adapt the session to suit your unique needs and requirements.
I will also discuss your treatment plan before I start to make sure you are happy and understand the process.
It’s important that I get to know you and what you need so and I always conduct a comprehensive consultation, assessment and examination.
l’ll ask you to complete a consent form where you will need to list any medical conditions you may have, any allergies, past injuries and operations and emergencies and I can send you this via email to you in advance if you’d prefer.
After your treatment I can give you ‘After Care Advice’ depending on what your needs are.
This may be exercises and/or stretches that you can do, or relaxation advice.
You may need a few treatments before you feel your pain and/or discomfort been resolved.
Sport, Remedial and Holistic Massage
Massage Therapy can help to remedy a lot of physical, mental and emotional issues. Some of the conditions it can help with are listed below:
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain
- Knee pain
- Chronic pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Frozen shoulder
- Shoulder Inpingement
- Tennis Elbow
- Emotional and mental stress
- Previous injuries when the inflammation has gone down
I can also help you if you are in pain caused by exercise, poor posture (such as slouching because of desk work, stress or too much driving) and if your body feels ‘tense’ and ‘tight’.
How does Massage work?
Evidence and studies have suggested that Massage Therapy can:
- Lengthen short and tight muscles
- Break down muscle adhesions
- Boost your immune system
- Increase blood flow
- Reduce stress hormones
- Stimulate the Lymphatic System
Before your Sport and Remedial treatment I will investigate the root cause of your pain or discomfort by taking a case history from you and then conducting a postural assessment and various physical tests can be utilised. These may be joint mobility tests, muscle length tests or observing how you move.
I will then use a variety of techniques such as muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, stretches, neuro-muscular and soft tissue release to help heal your pain or discomfort.
Skin, Fascia and Muscle….
As it isn’t just your muscles that are holding the pain, I work slowly to release tension from your skin and your fascia which cover the muscles before I go deeper into your actual muscles. This allows time for you and your body to relax.
Sometimes the treatment may be painful, but if it is, the pain you feel will be ‘good’ pain as it is your body’s way of healing.
You may also feel a bit sore or achy for up to 72 hours after your treatment. This is very normal, as again it’s your body’s way of adapting to the changes and you should feel more flexible, mobile and better generally after this process.
Holistic Massage can help to relax your mind, body and soul and can help you if your feeling stressed, depressed or if your body feels stiff and tense and needs relaxing.
I will use techniques such as joint mobilisation, stretching, effleurage, holds, rocking and percussion to name a few and you should feel very relaxed and ‘freer’ after the treatment. Deep tissue massage can also be very relaxing and can soften your muscles.
Dry Needling – Medical Acupuncture
This involves the insertion of filiform needles into muscular trigger points. It releases tension from your muscles and gets the blood circulating again. It is similar to a deep tissue massage but it is more specific and much research has been done to prove this technique can lengthen short muscles and improve flexibility.
I also offer shorter Seated Massage sessions through clothing.
This is especially beneficial in relieving pain and tension from your shoulders, upper back, neck, head, arms and hands and it is an excellent treatment if you work in an office or at a desk where you are continuously hunching in front of a computer.
It is also ideal to have in your lunch break as you don’t need to get undressed and they are often just as effective as a treatment on the couch.
