So, what is Sport, Remedial and Holistic Massage?
Sport and remedial Massage is the manipulation of soft tissue such as muscles, tendons and fascia to help to relieve physical pain.
This pain could have been caused by a sports injury, poor posture, stress, or it may just appear and you may not know what has caused it!
I can help you to find out what the cause is and also help to eradicate it.
I will take a full case history from you, conduct a postural assessment and use various physical tests if need be. These may be joint mobility tests, muscle length tests or an observation of how you move.
I will then use a variety of techniques such as muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, stretches, neuro-muscular and soft tissue release to help heal your pain or discomfort.
Holistic Massage can help to relax your mind, body and soul and can help you if your feeling stressed, depressed or if your body feels ‘tight’ or painful.
I will use techniques such as joint mobilisation, stretching, effleurage, holds, rocking and percussion to name a few and you should feel very relaxed and ‘freer’ after the treatment. Deep tissue massage can also be very relaxing and can help to soften your muscles.
What will the treatment involve?
I want you to get out of your session exactly what you want and will adapt the session to suit your unique needs and requirements.
I will also discuss your treatment plan before I start, to make sure you are happy and understand the process.
It’s important that I get to know you and what you personally want from the session, so I always conduct a comprehensive consultation, assessment and examination.
I’ll ask you to complete a consent form where you will need to list any medical conditions you may have, any allergies, past injuries and operations and emergencies and I can send you this via email in advance if you’d prefer.
After your treatment I’ll also give you ‘After Care Advice’ depending on what your needs are.
For example, This may be exercises and/or stretches that you can do, or relaxation advice.
You may need a few treatments before you feel your pain and/or discomfort has been resolved.
Massage Therapy can help to remedy a lot of physical, mental and emotional issues. Some of the conditions it can help with are listed below:
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain
- Knee pain
- Chronic pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Frozen shoulder
- Shoulder Impingement
- Tennis Elbow
- Emotional and mental stress
- Previous injuries when the inflammation has gone down
I can also help you if you are in pain caused by exercise or poor posture (such as slouching because of desk work, stress or too much driving).
How does Massage work?
Evidence and studies have suggested that Massage Therapy can help to:
- Lengthen short and tight muscles
- Break down muscle adhesions
- Boost your immune system
- Increase blood flow
- Reduce stress hormones
- Stimulate the Lymphatic System
I also offer shorter Seated Massage sessions through clothing.
This is especially beneficial in relieving pain and tension from your shoulders, upper back, neck, head, arms and hands and it is an excellent treatment if you work in an office or at a desk where you are continuously hunching in front of a computer.
It is also ideal to have in your lunch break as you don’t need to get undressed and they are often just as effective as a treatment on the couch.
