So, what is Sport, Remedial and Holistic Massage?
Sport and remedial Massage is the manipulation of soft tissue such as muscles, tendons and fascia to help to relieve physical pain.
This pain may have been caused by a variety of factors, such as from an injury, psychological stress, sitting down for hours..or something else.
I can help you to find out what the cause is and can also help you to get rid of it.
I will take a full case history from you, conduct postural assessments, mobility assessments and use various physical tests, if need be.
I will then use a variety of techniques such as muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, stretches, neuro-muscular and soft tissue release to help heal your problem.
Holistic Massage can help to relax your mind, body and soul and can help you if you’re feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or if your body feels ‘tense’ or painful.
I can utilize a variety of techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation, stretching, effleurage, pertissage, tapotement, holds, rocking and percussion and you should feel incredibly relaxed and ‘grounded’ during and after the treatment.
I often work very slowly, which can assist in helping you to be ‘in the moment’, so that any critical thinking and anxiety may evaporate and dissolve.
What will the treatment involve?
I want you to get out of your session exactly what you want and I will adapt the session to suit your needs.
I will also discuss your treatment plan before I start, to make sure you are happy and understand the process.
Before your treatment, I’ll ask you to complete a short consent/consultation form where you list any medical conditions or allergies you may have. I also ask about any past injuries, emergencies or operations and I will send you this form by email. If you’d rather complete the form with myself on the day of your treatment though, that is fine also.
After your treatment I can also give you ‘After Care’ advice. This may be exercises and/or stretches that you can do, or relaxation advice.
I may advise you that a few treatments is needed before you feel your pain and/or discomfort has been resolved.
Massage Therapy can help to remedy a lot of physical, mental and emotional issues. Some of the conditions it can help with are listed below:
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain
- Knee pain
- Chronic pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Frozen shoulder
- Shoulder Impingement
- Tennis Elbow
- Emotional and mental stress
- Previous injuries when the inflammation has gone down
How does Massage work?
Evidence and studies have suggested that Massage Therapy can help to:
- Lengthen short and tight muscles
- Break down muscle adhesions
- Boost your immune system
- Increase blood flow
- Reduce stress hormones
- Stimulate the Lymphatic System
I also offer shorter Seated Massage sessions through clothing.
This is especially beneficial in relieving pain and tension from your shoulders, upper back, neck, head, arms and hands and it is an excellent treatment if you work in an office or at a desk where you are continuously hunching in front of a computer.
It is also ideal to have in your lunch break as you don’t need to get undressed and they are often just as effective as a treatment on the couch.
